International Students

The Intensive English (IEP) and Part-time English (PTE) Programs

There are five IEP and PTE levels at Milo International Language Center: Levels 1 through
5. The institution has four 12-week academic terms: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
There is a 1-week summer break, a 1-week spring break, and a 2-week winter break for
Christmas and New Year’s Holidays. Students on an F-1 visa can request a vacation
equivalent to one academic term after completing three (3) academic terms. They must
intend to return to the program after their vacation. Please review our Leave of Absence

classes. English students exiting the program who have completed at least 12 weeks are
also given an exit test.

Immigration Regulations for Students

American Citizens and Permanent Residents
All USA citizens and legal permanent residents do not have study restrictions based on
federal immigration law. These students are, therefore, able to enroll and study in any
program for which they wish. These students must still abide by all school policies, rules
and terms and conditions.

Foreign Nationals in the United States
Non-immigrants persons who come to the U.S. for a temporary stay to accomplish a
specific objective and then return home are called Foreign Nationals. F-1 Student is the
classification assigned to non-immigrants coming to the United States to earn a
certificate, degree, or professional qualification at a U.S. college or university, including
students of English as a second language (ESL).

Any student who is a foreign national studying in the USA is responsible for maintaining
his/her F-1 Status, and any student failing this requirement cannot transfer from one
U.S. school to another and may be refused re-admission to the United States upon
attempting to return from a trip abroad. If a student fails to comply with the F-1 student
immigration regulations, Milo International Language Center is required to report status
violations to the USCIS via SEVIS. When USCIS receives a report of a status violation,
officers investigate the violation and the student may be put into removal proceedings
to ask them to depart the U.S.

Maintaining Full-time Student Status (F-1) in an Intensive English Program
The Intensive English Program at Milo International Language Center consists of full-
time study of 19 hours per week.
Milo International Language Center is obligated by law to record attendance daily and
act upon deficiencies as prescribed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and
the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

Foreign nationals studying in the USA must be aware of this list of serious violations in
order to avoid them:
- Failure to begin a course of study by the start date listed on the I-20 or within 30
days of arrival in the country;
- Employment of any kind during the course of study;
- Failure to leave the country within the 60-day grace period after the end date
listed on the I-20;
- Keeping a valid I-20 at all times;
- Unauthorized drop below 19 hours of study per week.

B-1/B-2 or Visa Waiver Holders Enrolled in Part-time Programs
Any person holding a visitor status (B-1/B-2) or any person travelling to the USA through
the visa waiver program must not enroll in a program that will violate their status. These
individuals can only enroll at MILO in part-time programs that do not exceed 15 hours of study per week in order to maintain legal status.
